INTERNSHIPS

At Sandy Pine, we are committed to developing future talent in our company and within the industry! We offer two types of paid internship programs – college and high school. Each program is designed with the student in mind to support areas of interest, majors, and career goals. Our internships provide hands-on experience, working with leaders in the industry, ranging sow farms, boar studs, gene transfer centers, feed processing, facilities maintenance to office environments. Internships typically occur in the summer, with part-time or full-time opportunities available throughout the year.

Pig Care Technician (Sow Farms)

Pig Care Technician interns will gain experience within a Sow Farm facility. This experience will include farrowing, breeding, health monitoring, biosecurity, administering medications and vaccinations, maintaining health and production records, and overall day-to-day care for animals. The skills acquired during this internship will provide a baseline of knowledge to build upon in the future.

Pig Care Technician & Lab Technician – Gene Transfer Center (Boar Stud)

Pig Care Technician and Lab Technician interns will gain experience within a boar stud gene transfer center production facility. This experience will include breeding boar husbandry, health monitoring, biosecurity and isolation, lab analysis, semen quality control and delivery of a consistent product. The skills acquired during this internship will provide a baseline of knowledge to build upon in the future.

Feed Operating Specialist

Feed Operating Specialist interns will gain experience within a swine feed processing facility. This experience will include receiving bulk ingredients/grains for processing, monitor usage and inventory of feed ingredients, process feed orders based on swine movement and operate feed manufacturing equipment.

Farm Maintenance Technician

Farm Maintenance Technician interns will gain experience performing general handyman duties from site maintenance to construction. This experience will include repairs on farm equipment, machines, parts replacement, facility repairs, feed bin repairs, carpentry, welding, and preventative maintenance.

High School Student

High School student interns will gain hands-on, real-life experience within a variety of areas like swine production (sow farms), genetic centers (boar studs), feed processing (feed mill), farm maintenance, transportation and office environments. The experience gives the student the opportunity to gain knowledge about the swine industry and discover potential long-term career opportunities within our company. The skills acquired during the program will provide a baseline of knowledge to build upon in the future. Program options include part-time (year-round), COE (school year) or summer (June-August).

Office

Office interns will gain experience within an office environment, in a variety of departments like Human Resources, Accounting & Information Technology. This experience will include a well-rounded overview of the department and functions that support our employees and customer/vendor needs.
